“I explore the poetry embedded in everyday experience,” said Anca.
In celebration of its first anniversary, and the welcome return of spring after another long, dark winter, Kyst Gallery is delighted to present Anca’s Spring Tables, an exhibition of paintings by emerging artist Anca (Annette Carlsen), living and working in Stevns, Denmark.
This marks Kyst Gallery’s first anniversary with its 11th exhibition. In its first year, the gallery has presented 15 emerging artists—90% of whom are women, and over half Danish. A meaningful milestone for a small coastal gallery.
Rooted in contemporary practice and inspired by naïve and folk-art traditions, Anca’s paintings embrace simplicity, warmth, and emotional immediacy. Her works are grounded in an uplifting vision of everyday life, shaped by a deep appreciation for positive thinking and the joy of gardening.
Across her compositions, tables become central motifs—stages for life’s small rituals. Flowers arranged in bright vases, water bottles, well-thumbed books, curious animals, and familiar household objects populate her scenes. These elements carry the gentle traces of daily Danish living, transforming the ordinary into something vivid and quietly celebratory.
Rather than striving for strict realism, Anca embraces playful distortions of perspective, flattened spaces, and colours that bloom beyond nature. In doing so, she echoes the spirit of early twentieth-century artists who challenged academic conventions in favour of personal expression.
In the midst of the world’s chaos and maddening stories, Anca’s paintings offer a breath of fresh air—much like Dragør itself, by the sea. Through vibrant colours and joyful compositions, her works celebrate the magic of ordinary moments, inviting viewers to gather, pause, and rediscover warmth, humour, curiosity, magic and wonder in everyday life.
